Aww, look at the little bokeh hearts.
This is my Valentine photo but it didn’t turn out very well at all. Probably because it took less than 5 minutes – I only had a few minutes to make my DIY heart aperture and I had to hold it against the lens whilst triggering the shutter release cable too.
Strobism:
• SB-600 | 1/16 | 24mm through collapsed 43″ reversible umbrella camera left.
• Bokeh Hearts | fairy lights through DIY cardboard aperture.
Not really a self portrait – a bit of self and a wee bit of camera porn, although I don’t really have a Canon fetish.
The idea was to get two different types of reflection. Direct reflection at the top and bottom part of the camera where the face angles at 45 degrees and on the lens and diffuse reflection on the face. It made the ‘G9’ logo pop a bit as well. I though it looked quite nice, but overall not what I wanted – space was an issue again; I had to wear a white shirt to get separation between me and the camera but it caused my left shoulder to be blown when I lit the wall. I wanted to light my face separately and use the umbrella to light my hand and the camera only… nevermind, just didn’t have the space because of spill.
Strobism is as follows:
• SB600 | 24mm | 1/16 through shoot through umbrella in front of camera up high.
• SB600 | 24mm | 1/8 bare at wall through DIY grid.
• Reflector underneath.
